Mechanical Protection & Asbestos EncapsulationIn some cases it is accepted that the identified asbestos containing materials (ACMs) are in a suitable condition to leave in place provided that any degradation can be prevented. Depending on the location and the condition of the ACM, its protection can be achieved by constructing a mechanical barrier which is put in place around the ACM to prevent it from receiving any damage that could lead to a release of asbestos fibres into the atmosphere, or alternatively a specialised coating can be applied to the ACM which encapsulates the material ensuring that there is no further fibre release.
