Portsmouth Guildhall

Working closely with Portsmouth City Council, Asbestech were called in to undertake remedial works as part of enablement for The Guildhall Portsmouth’s programmed major refurbishment. Our work encompassed the boiler room and the air-conditioning plant room as well as several other locations comprising of risers and ceiling voids throughout this historic building.

In the boiler room and the plant room we undertook the removal, under fully controlled conditions, of asbestos insulation to pipework and a full environmental clean to all surfaces, removing asbestos insulation residue from the walls.

Rather unusually for us, we had to schedule our works around a major concert by a rock group. Kasabian needed our demarked site compound area to park their tour busses when they were in concert at The Guildhall, so we had to re-arrange our start date to make allowances for this. In addition, whilst we were on site Portsmouth City Council asked us to carry out some minor additions to the original scope of works. However, by increasing the size of our team and slightly extending our working day throughout the course of the project we were able to allow for both of these factors and finish within the originally planned schedule. This helped Portsmouth City Council to ensure that there were no knock on delays to the other contractors that were due to follow our works meaning that the refurbishment work to The Guildhall continued on time and on budget.
